 David Torrhas grown the dinner-kit delivery service, UCOOK, together with his business partners, from a garage in Cape Town’s Southern Suburbs into an industry leader, now employing well over 100 people countrywide. He made his first million at the tender age of 24 and hasn’t slowed down since. In addition to UCOOK, David has interests in the SA property market, with specialist real estate investment vehicle, Solace Holdings, as well as the Eden Experience, one of SA’s largest music festivals.

Expelled from the better schools in the country, voted by his copywriting peers at Red and Yellow as “most likely to end up in prison”, you too would bet confidently that these accolades would set up a failure-to-launch tale. As ex-teacher Morag Wallace at Reddam House once predicted: “the one who has the potential to be a world-changer but would never aspire to anything because of his delinquency”.

You’ll meet an ambitious, humble and charismatic multrepreneur, who even Wallace is thrilled to congratulate. Advertising powerhouse Ogilvy & Mather turned David Torr away in his younger years, only to ironically invite him to address them under the title of “Recipes for Success” recently.
