Business Breakfast | South African Democracy: 2024 and Beyond with Mmusi Maimane, Founder of ONE SA Movement and MC Siv Ngesi

Mmusi founded the One South Africa Movement in 2020 and is the former Leader of South Africa’s official opposition, the Democratic Alliance (DA). From a young age, Mmusi had a passion for fighting for the dignity of the poor, excluded and marginalized in society. This fuelled his conviction to build One South Africa that is united, reconciled and prosperous.
He grew up in Soweto and holds two masters degrees – in Public Administration and in Theology – and is working towards his PhD in economic development. He speaks 7 South African languages fluently.

Mmusi’s career spans across the business and governance sectors. Having spent close to a decade in institutional politics, it became clear to Mmusi that the formalized political system is broken and self-serving, and requires wholescale change. This is why he has committed the coming years to building a grassroots, activist movement that changes the South African political and socio-economic landscape through the direct election of public servants to office.

Sivuyile “Siv” Ngesi, Comedian, Actor and MC. Well known comedian, actor and MC Sivuyile “Siv” Ngesi is one of SA’s most dynamic performers. He is a sought after comedian, television presenter, prolific actor, MC, Producer and social media sensation. He is a 3-time SAFTA award winner, was named Mail and Guardian’s most influential young South African 2011 and is one of Destiny Man’s most influential men under the age of 40.
