27 August 2020
Inspirational speaker, adventurer, extreme athlete, entrepreneur, 2015 South African Businesswoman of the Year award-winner, and undeniable optimist, Lee den Hond is living proof that when purpose is bigger than challenge, nothing is impossible.
Lee became the third South African woman to summit Mount Everest in 2013 and completed the Marathon des Sables in Morocco in 2017, a race known as the toughest footrace in the world. Six Full Ironman endurance events and a 500km adventure endurance race in South Africa.
She is the author of What Happens When You Say YES! and is owner and founder of Blue Platinum Events. Lee speaks like she lives: vigorously and with fervour. She states with humble conviction that the success that she has achieved with her company in the last 18 years had its birth in what was probably the darkest moment of her professional career. At the age of 30, the South African entrepreneur went to New York in the hope of making it big in the marketing department of Nike. She did not, however, succeed. When her unrealistic expectations were followed by a brutal knife attack, she found her dreams derailed. Down but not out, Lee returned home to South Africa with barely $20 to her name. From rock bottom, she built up a multimillion-rand events company, won South African Businesswoman of the Year and transformed herself into a remarkable extreme athlete.
Drawing on her life-changing experiences, challenges, journeys, and lessons learned along the way, Lee is an engaging, powerful speaker who inspires business owners, self-starters and teams to achieve and maintain success through a combination of vision, stamina and passion, proving what a difference purpose can make to success. Her inspiring talk, Be Inspired, has gained critical acclaim, highlighting the ability to overcome challenges in the pursuit of goals. Her ability to relate to her audience and link strategy execution and the obstacles of running a business to the difficulties faced on the summit of Everest and the brutal trails of the Sahara desert is phenomenal.
